A Daughter of Salem: Eclipse

This witch portrait went through several iterations before reaching the finished stage. I found the initial drawing a little too basic. The eclipse that occurred in 2017 inspired the rocky and crater shapes in the background.

The finished painting. 10" x 13", oil on paper mounted to Masonite. Based on a photo of colleague Wylie Beckert.

The initial drawing. I had a much different direction in mind at first.

In progress on the easel. Lots of fun with paint texture on this one. Lots of paint thinner applied to create drips, and thick paint applied with a palette knife to create organic rock textures.
